Cantonese Braised Beef
This Cantonese-style braised beef is rich, savory, and deeply flavorful. The beef is slowly simmered in a fragrant broth until tender, creating a dish that is perfect for a cozy dinner.
Ingredients:
- 1 lb beef brisket, sliced thinly
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
- 4 slices ginger
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 tablespoons Shaoxing wine
- 2 tablespoons dark soy sauce
- 2 tablespoons light soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon oyster sauce
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 2 cups beef broth
- 2 star anise
- 1 cinnamon stick
- 2 green onions, chopped, for garnish
Instructions:
In a large pot, heat vegetable oil over medium-high heat
Add ginger and garlic, stir-fry until fragrant
Add beef slices, cook until browned
Pour in Shaoxing wine, dark soy sauce, light soy sauce, oyster sauce, and sugar
Stir well
Add beef broth, star anise, and cinnamon stick
Bring to a boil
Reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer for 1
5 - 2 hours, until beef is tender
Remove lid, increase heat to thicken sauce if desired
Serve hot, garnished with chopped green onions
